Why did I create the Home Buddy Youth Programme?

Sometimes the best ideas start with a simple "what if...?"

What if young people could learn outside the classroom?

We spend so much time asking young people to fit into a system and I started wondering.. what if we created something that fitted the young person instead?

I've learned through my own experiences that sometimes people don't struggle because they lack ability, they just haven't found the opportunity and environment where their ability can shine.

I decided to create something practical, positive and a bit different..

I wanted to create a youth programme where young people can:

• Grow

• Learn

• Build

• Create

• Thrive

The Home Buddy Youth Programme is designed to support young people aged 11-16 who may benefit from a different approach to learning, including:

• Young people with SEN

• Those who may be struggling in a traditional classroom environment

• Those who need more opportunities to build confidence, learn, grow and experience the real world in a positive and supportive environment.

We are working with local businesses and organisations to create meaningful experiences where young people can develop practical skills, build confidence, meet new people and discover what they are capable of.

From gaining real-life experience and learning about the world of work, to developing social skills and taking part in community projects and volunteering, the aim is simple:

To help young people grow in confidence, develop skills for life and see their own potential.

This is just the beginning of the Home Buddy Youth Programme, I'm incredibly excited to see where it can go.
